Anyone done any business with Naperville Motors in Naperville, Illinois?

They have a large number of used BMW's for sale.

I came very close to buying my current 528i from them, and they were
very quick to drop their price and make a deal. However, the only car
that I was interested in was supposedly a cream-of-the-crop Certified
Pre-Owned model. The manager had just finished telling me how they are
very picky about which cars they accept for this exclusive program, yet
this car had a pushed in bumper and dented rear quarter panel, which to
me indicated that it had been involved in some kind of accident. They
wouldn't fix it, so I walked on down to Laurel Motors.
I bought my car there, but would not recommend them to anyone. If I was
looking again, I'd check out a used car from a BMW club. You'd save a
bundle and typically get a better maintained car (or at least a car
with a history).

Good Luck,

Matthew

I don't know anything about either of the two
dealers mentioned in the previous postings but I just went through the
process of finding and buying a used 330xi, in another state, from a
broker who goes to auctions and buys and sells high end cars to augment
his day job as an engineer. I ended up with a creampuff for about $5000
less than my local dealer wanted for a "Certified" car.

I learned that there are two tricks to this: buy a car with some
manufacturer's warranty left, just in case; and get a subscription to
CarFax so that you can check the history of the car. Inputting the VIN
tells you whether the title is clean; whether it has been in a major
accident; whether the mileage makes sense; and how the seller got the
car. Carfax costs $25; is web based; lasts a month; and lets you check
as many VINs as you like.

I found that the cars that my local BMW dealers were selling were bought
at auction just like the used car lots and brokers were doing. They were
not necessarily the best of the trade-ins to that dealership.

I visited there in January, a few weeks after they opened. I was
looking for something like an E39 528iA/530iA Sport, and noticed that
they had several on their website. The showroom and facilities are
very nice, but the salesman to whom I talked (about 60 years old, white
hair) was particularly pushy, rude, unknowledgeable and apparently
dishonest.

For example: driving down a very wide, icy street, the salesman
instructed me to push the DSC button to "get traction," which I would
know I had acheived "When you see the yellow light on the dash." No
one who has looked at the owners manual for a German car would make
this statement.

For example: When we sat down to talk price, and I made a reasonable
offer, the salesman told me (with my wife present): "This is not the
right car for you. You're wife won't let you buy it..." This may be a
workable sales tactic with especially stupid, macho types, but not so
much with me. It's doubly insulting when the wife earns as much as I
do!

For example: After 20 minutes of negotiating on price, the asking
price on the website was "corrected upwards" by $4,000 by the "sales
manager," for which the salesman offered a "Sorry, kid." I'm 30 and
gainfully self-employed.

I would avoid this place because I get the disticnt impression that
they will tell you anything to sell you a car, and that they don't
understand the cars they sell.

Repost if further details are needed.
