I have a 1997 2WD pick-up with 116,000 miles. I replaced the front brake
pads on 9/29. No problem until about a week ago when I started hearing and
feeling a vibration/rumble up front just before I come to a regular complete
stop. It does not occur with a hard stop. There was still pad material on
the old ones at replacement time and both of the rotors are smooth. This
problem was not present prior to replacement. This is the fourth set I have
replaced on various vehicles (second for the truck) and have not experienced
this problem before. Any ideas? Thanks.

if the rotors were not cut at the time of the pad replacement the first
thing you will need to do is cut the rotors.

just because the rotors are "smooth" does not mean that they might have some
degree of lateral runout .

Thank you! I googled "lateral runout" and now I see what you mean.
