Do Toyota's have rust protection? To the unibodies get dipped into
galvanization or similar? If so, what?

My 2004 Celica was made in Japan (Kanto Auto Works) and I am worried
about rust.

DO NOT UNDERCOAT. It makes it worse. it trappes moisture and makes it rust.
toyota coats the undercarrage good enough. if u live where it snows,
frequently go to the car wash and spray underneith very thouroughly. itll
be your best bet..

The original owner of my '85 Celica oiled it four years in a row. Only the
slightest hint of rust is just showing up. Oiled inside and underneath
with hydraulic oil, then driven down a dry, dusty dirt road. Car has to be
DRY when oiled!

You are saying it is OK to thoroughly wash the underside with a garden
hose? This will flush away the salt water and replace it with fresh
water, right? Maybe I can get a sprinkler and just stick it under the
car and turn on the hose...it should all be OK to have lots of water
sprayed under there, right?

Qualifications: It should be above freezing when you do it, so the
clean water doesn't freeze into a big ice layer before it has a chance
to drain off, and you don't want to use a high pressure spray where
the water will force it's way past seals.

But yes, it's a good thing to get the road salt rinsed off the
undercarriage of your car. Some car washes have sprayers for the
bottom, or you can build a pipe with a caster and a lawn sprinkler
head on the end to hook on a garden hose, slide under and flush away.

I've also seen designs where people build a spray pipe and a drain
into their driveway so it can be done semi-automatically - just turn
on the spray and drive over it slowly on your way out, or back in.
