Not bad and it reminds me:

So God leaned down from the heavens and spake to Adam and Eve
saying "Go ye forth, into the bushes, and procreate". Adam
shouted up "God, what's procreate"? God hen leaned down and
whispered into Adam's ear "#$%^&*&, know what I mean"? <nudge

the bushes and shouted up "God, what's headache"?

In retrospect if God, instead of taking a rib, had
taken a hair and made man his own pussy man would be a hell of
lot better off today. Imagine all the grief, heartache, money

The original post in this thread was some of the funniest shit I've seen
on the web in a long time. You'd have to own cat(s) to truly appreciate
it I'd guess. Our 2 cats do just about everything he described in the "4

change the diet during the holidays to real food from your

The key word here, from my wife the veterinarian, is "scraps".

RUBBISH. My reason for bringing home leftovers from restaurant
meals is that I don't eat such large portions at a single
sitting. Your wife's assertion is a bit quacky around the edges.
She is also one who projects her
ways onto others ... including you. LOL The likely nutrient you
are searching for is taurine. The following makes my point about
FRESH food (canned and dry has to have this amino acid added in
to the formula by law).

http://www.petcaretips.net/cat_taurine.html
In the wild, rodents formed a large part of the feline diet, and
the rodents
had significant levels of taurine in their brains.

I have to trust legislation and puss's willingness to eat
sufficient commercial food to get his allowance of taurine. I'm
not going to 'mouse' for him at me age! Makes ya wonder though
.. if Liberals have a deficiency of this amino acid.

Read my whole post, slowly, now read it again. "SCRAPS" are not
good.
I didn't say anything about "leftovers". If you can't clear an
american restaurant sized plate (and very few should!), and you
bring home stuff
that you would normally eat if you wanted to be 300lbs, then OK,
feed it
to your cat. It is much better quality raw ingredients than what
goes
into the cat food bag or can. Lots of people feed their pets
"scraps"
which is the stuff that is not fit to feed your family, you
shouldn't
feed that to your pets either.

Dan

we spice up our foods quite a bit, plus we eat a lot of veggies.
Our
cat would sniff it and walk away.

You JUST MADE MY POINT. You are trying to force your eating habits on a
specialized preditor. "plus, WE eat a lot of veggies."

So pathetic are the who people accept unquestioningly the

sold through veterinarians. And let's not overlook the influence
of the pharmaceutical industry. How about paying $300 for your
cat's teeth cleaning? Oh, you have to leave the cat

your cat is over 7 yrs old, vets now require you sign a safety

Amen!

I want to know who cleans the teeth of dogs, cats, and other
animals living naturally in the wild! Where do these critters
get
their crunchy food in the wild? The dog lovers will probably
have
a cow, but our dog loves some weird stuff like watermelon
rinds, the stump from the heart of lettuce or cabbage, that little
bit
you cut off of asparagus, and of course, every dog's favorite,
pizza crusts. He didn't like the large wad of wasabi that he
stole off my plate but his reaction was pretty fun to watch. --

Dry foods do nothing for cleaning teeth because it just
breaks apart and only makes contact with the tip. Wet foods
are worse. If you want a food that cleans the teeth you need
to feed them raw chicken (check out+ BARF diets)
or try some of the special dental foods that are designed to
not break and will wipe the surface of the whole tooth clean.

How about you trying some these dental treats on yourself and
post the results? I've never had a productive dialog with a pet over
dental hygiene and gotten a straight answer. ;-) What you say
about "special dental foods" is advertising rubbish. Better you
go on about why ostriches swallow pebbles.

I agree there is a lot of crap out there, and I have no personal
experience since my dog is on a very specific diet because of
allergies which limits greatly what he can eat, but I saw a show
on Animal Planet that
showed research and data on new dental cleansing food that is
designed to not break apart, but let's the tooth sink into it,
wiping the entire surface clean. They also showed very positive
results from feeding dogs this
food. This wiping action is what's missing when you feed canned or
dry food but occurs when an animal eats raw meat. This is hardly
rubbish.

And I wonder who funded the research and Animal Planet's showing? One can
make the argument that food chunks designed like you have
outlined would also press food down between the back teeth and the
gum line. Periodontal disease follows. Sorta like what happens
to you after woofing down a bag of microwave popcorn. So...
rubbish science. Wanna bet "dental" food is cheaper to produce,
has less food value, and can command a higher price? LOL

By the same token, who funds the research for your toothpaste and
the ADA sticker?

Dan

When I was growing up, tooth powder was popular. But we were a bit poor so
.... baking soda is what we used. Still have all my teeth (many repared,
one root canal).

Dog food is also popular with our cats!

Not a good idea. Dog food lacks certain ingredients which
cats REALLY need, like taurine.

Now I see what your problem is. You assume that the cat is
living
ONLY on dog food or ONLY on table scraps. But how
convienent for you to buy only one kind of feed.
--
- Philip
In observance of Pearl Harbor, feel free to
Zero in on a Mitsubishi driver and cut him off!

Like Philip says, our cats mostly eat cat food and only get
dog food if the dog hasn't finished it off because they're too
lazy to go down to the basement where their food is.

If the cat wants to eat food intended for another species ...
have at it! This isn't a massive, all-or-nothing diet change for

We get Iams at the local grocery store, in the pet dept. The
teeth need cleaning because some owners feed their pets soft
food and table scraps which is not good for their health. Stick with
what's proven and your
cat will live a long fruitful life and eventually die of kidney
failure.

You're so full of BS. How is it then that vets STILL try to
sell you on teeth cleaning when your pussy is on the "all dry food"
diet? Hmmnm? --

- Philip

An all dry food diet is NO GUARANTEE of plaque/tartar free teeth.

Hallelujah! An "Ah Ha" moment.

Humans or Pets. It's very individual. I NEVER floss and have
fewer dental problems than my wife who flosses/brushes 3 times a
day!!!

As a broadly held truth, humans experience far more dental
problems than cats. People often have "soft" teeth from low
calcium or inherited weaknesses. Dental misalignment is FAR more
common in people ... which promotes food impactions between teeth
and into the gums. People are omnivores (leaning toward plant
material) but can sustain themselves on diets that are highly
detrimental to their dental hygiene. Cats are meat eaters. Just
look in a cats mouth and tell me what those teeth and lack of jaw
mobility (side to side for grinding) are for. Ain't for grinding
bananas. ;^)

People have all these problems because we don't breed against them!
We fix them as children and then they get married off, bad genetics
and all!
I've threatened to sue my father-in-law for false advertising! He
had my wife's teeth fixed and now I'm on the hook for my children's. And
the cycle will repeat itself.

Cats in the wild with bad teeth tend not to live to sexual maturity.
Cats bred by proper cat breeders (I know, where are they) are not
allowed to breed with genetic disorders.

Problems with cats teeth/gums are often OBVIOUSLY visible and it
is NOT b.s.

Sorry. Only the really involved cat owner (attempts) to pry open
a cat's mouth for a tooth inspection. Likely to get a bite! Do
you wait for your cat to yawn and then quick, snap a digital
picture? LOL By the time a cat's tooth is visibly damaged from
decay, it's time for removal. Bad breath should be a precursor
though.
It has long ago been proven in humans that infections from gums
can transmit though the blood to the heart valves and cause
problems. Cats, being mammals, are no different..in this regard.

We have agreement. Ever wonder why dentists have the highest
mortality rates in the medical profession?

Suicide?

Dan

Suicide is a factor that increases mortality. But you know that ... now.
