Any ideas on restoring the finish to faded/ dull anodized aluminum parts
short of having then re-anodized?

Bob,
This has been the $500 question. What our club has found out due to much
testing is this.
Finish can be improved with very fine steelwool and armour-all. < easiest.
Finish can be improved better by an anodized removal product (powder mix in
water) let soak and it softens the finish, then either buff with machine and
compound or hand with that fine cotton wadding they sell at car shows (NOT
NEVER DULL) < somewhat easy, but never ending process
Finish can be improved even better by sending it off and having it chromed.
Looks great, isn't cheap as re-anodizing but look a whole lot better.
OR you can do what I did, sand through the anodized finish with 35 grit
paper then go finer, till you get to steel wool grade then wash it up with
solvent and put about 10 coats of clear on it. < WAY TOO MUCH WORK, but they
look good.
By The way, Anodized aluminum is the next hardest thing known to man besides
diamonds.)
