Oh it's so much worse than you think. The last practice I worked for charged |
its staff for visits, something I had never seen anywhere. I told the CEO
that he can expect the huge turnaround at that practice to continue, with
tactics like that.

Natalie: All charitable organizations can be suspect. How money is
distributed is a big deal for me, since I'd like to get more bang for the
bucks, but in the end, every little bit helps for most charities. |

the kids) before I let UNICEF piss it away by only getting 1/3 to where it
needs to go. The source was NPR about 4-6 weeks ago.
The real shame is, UNICEF is actually spending about 90% of what it
collects on itmes for the needy, but they way they distribute it SUCKS!
Not a question of fraud on UNICEF's part, but their distribution system
sucks, and some of it winds up in the wrong hands due to theivery and
corruption on the part of the recipients! And 1/3 never gets distributed,
or the truck breaks down, or, (in a couple instances) it goes to where the
Nomads WERE and now there is nobody there to collect it and it spoils.
Like I said, send in the Marines! Oooooh-Rah!

I don't think it's realistic to think that *any* charity isn't occasionally
corrupted. Anything dealt with by humans can be easily tainted.

Since United Way has started up this "anti-Boy-Scout" thing a decade ago,
they haven't got a dime from me. If they're anti-decency and pro-gay, I'm
not wasting my money there. Besides I know how they work. I had a friend
who worked on the inside one year and explained how it all got 'used'.
Never again. They can pry the money from my cold,dead hand, but they're
going to have to wait in line.

You are correct. Even the Red Cross had its problems a few years ago.
They have cleared up their act it seems, so I'll trust their ratio
much more than that of the UN or associated charities. |
