Have you figured it out already or do you still need help?

Yeah, I got it! I couldn't get the console out, and it seemed there was a
screw somewhere under the little 'box' in the center. But the box wouldn't
come out! Then, partly by chance and partly by 'educated guess', I removed
the small piece of carpeting in the bottom of the box and found the screw!

All the wiring for the amps is in, the head unit and eq are roughed in,
all that's left is to run some wire for the speakers. Looks pretty slick!

Thanks for the response!

Glad you got it. Otherwise, I would have looked at my cars and
replied to you. What system are you putting in?

Never mind. I read what you put in the heading "1999 Toyota Tercel".
Sounds like a nice setup alright. Update us on what happens when it
is finished. Good luck with it.

Your *cars* ? How many/what? (Oh, no, another nut like me!)

Well, I sell used cars, and we buy a lot of wrecks for parts. Sooooo...

JVC head unit from a beater we got (paid less for the car than the owner
did for the stereo!)

UGH! Radio Shack (hey, they were going out of the Car Audio business! The
stuff was pennies on the dollar!) 7 band graphic EQ with sub controller

Optimus 400W 4 channel amp, both channels bridgeable!
Optimus 260 amp bridged to run either a JBL or Q-Logic sub (probably the
Q, I don't think the JBL will fit...)

Haven't decided on speakers yet. The original Live Sound option speakers
are toast; probably go with MB Quart or Infinity, 4" in front and try to
shoehorn some 5x7's in the rear...

I had this basic system in the Tercel: I was running the Optimus 260W amp,
65W/channel to the front and the rear bridged, running a ProAudio sub we
stuffed into an old Pig Nose 12" amp that the amp blew
on,

http://www.zzounds.com/item--PIGG40V

and an Optimus 55Wx2 amp running
the rears, with Optimus 5.25's all the way around, and the EQ. Sounded
really good!

Now for the sick part:
EQ: $10
260W amp: $69.95
400W amp (leftover): $30
Speakers: $20 for four
JVC head unit: Free
ProSound sub: $12

Whopping total of: $141.95!
Blowing away people who have spent well over $900: Priceless!!!

Now that the wiring is done, I can easily upgrade any component,
except the speakers. That's why I want to go with the Quarts or
another Very Good speaker; that and the fact that you can have the
best amps in the world, but if your speakers suck, what's the use? Maybe
later (when I have the $$$) we'll go with Alpine amps. I do have an Alpine
V12 100W mono amp I was going to use for the sub, still haven't decided.
Got that for free, too...I like selling used cars! I also 'acquired' two
Sony CD receivers, a Jensen bridgeable 300W amp and the Q-Logic from
trades. I have the Jensen and the JBL in the Celica right now.

I have a mini-collection of cars. I'm just a car guy who happens to
have a supply business. That's how I can afford a few. Too many to
list but I'm no Jay Leno.

I have a 91 and a 92 Supra Turbo. I can only have 3 cars at my house
so both those cars are stored in another location.

As far as your system, are you going to use your cars for show cars or
just a real music afficionado? You seem to go all out.

LOL! I'm a bass player who drives a lot. I don't often have time to sit
down and listen to music, except when I'm driving. So, I want to HEAR the
bass! I have always upgraded my systems looking for bass, from powered
graphic EQs back in the '70s, to adding amps through the '80s, to adding
subs in the '90s. Plus, I listen to a lot of music, from classical to
'alternative' (can it still be called that, since it is now fairly
mainstream?), to some a bit softer, and talk radio to boot (although I do
this at work.) I had a really nice slightly older Alpine, but it didn't
play CD-Rs.

Besides, my stuff is fairly ordinary, a little too so for shows. I just
like 'concert sound'.

So, have you got a CD of Don Dorsey's 'Bachbusters' or 'Beethoven or
Bust', Hachi? Classical synth with some /serious/ bottom. And for
Pop, there's always Tower of Power, great brass line and ripping sax
leads... ;-)

LOL! (showing his age) I used to have a copy of "Switched On Bach" Back in
the very early days of synthesizers. And I MEAN early!
Tower of power was really good, but I tend to go more towards jazz now.
There are two stations with most excellent jazz programs; WFCR which is an
NPR station, and WRNX, which has two jazz shows on Sunday mornings. Also
an NPR from Albany that also has excellent jazz, but later at night. And I
used to HATE jazz!
