First BMW - 318iS - few questions? |
|
|
Hello all, I posted a week or so back asking questions about an 83 533i,
didn't buy that car, but did buy a 91 318iS. Pretty nice car, runs great,
looks great, few minor issues to sort out. I have a few basic questions:
1. I have no owner's manual (though one is on the way) - what does the memo
button on the OBC do? I have the very basic time/temp OBC.
2. I have a pretty good power steering leak. I see that both rack and pump
rebuild kits are available - anyone done this? I plan to get under tonight and
figure out what is actually leaking. Maybe I will luck out and it is just a
bad hose - yeah right! I am thinking I would probably attempt rebuilding the
pump, but would probably buy an already rebuilt rack.
3. The previous owner installed a "short-shift" kit - I hate it, makes the
shifter feel like a toggle switch - anyone want to trade for the stock item? I
have no idea what brand it is.
4. Steering wheels - in looking at various listings for wheels, it looks like
all post 86ish E30 steering wheels are interchangeable? Even air-bag and
non-airbag steering wheels? The SRS system is dead anyway, and I would prefer
a leather wrapped MOMO wheel.

Let's say you have something to do, or a program on the radio you like that |
starts at a certain time. You set the Memo, and it will beep 3 minutes
before the time you set to remind you of the event. It is kind of like tying
a string around your finger. |

I couldn't agree more! My friend has a 95 325is with Z3 shifter kit and it
feels like crap!
I like a little throw in my shift...
Enjoy the handling of your "baby" m3 :o)

Well done, you just bought most fun/$ BMW ever to leave the factory :-)
Wonderful car.

Me too. You can use it to make the thing beep at a preset time to remind
you of things.

The nicest one is the second of the BMW //M wheels - hard to get though.
All E30, E28, E32, E24 and E34 wheels are the same. E36 wheels have the
same splines but are a different offset along the column length.

Speaking of the MSport wheel, i found one in a junkyard in a car with no
keys, and a icant seem to get it off. my friend tells me there is a wheel
lock (literally) that requires the key to remove it. I hope not, at this
point id have to have it recovered but ive already got the little M plastic
for one of the spokes...
thank you,

Correct. it's locked on if the key is removed.
