93 Ford Probe Fuel Light Prob |
|
|
Hey all...
I'm working on a '93 Ford Probe with 2.5 V6, car runs very well has 226,000
miles on it, manual transmission, fully loaded.
the fuel cutoff light came on a little bit ago, and I have no idea where to
start diagnosing it. The chilton's manual is clueless, so I'm coming to the
experts!
The car fires fine, runs strong (although burns a quart of oil every 400
miles), I've searched for an intertia switch, and can't find one. gas
filter was replaced a little bit ago, but that's about it fuel wise..
Help!?

Hello Eric - Is this a trouble indicator on the dash or a warning lamp
in the console?

This light is on the dashboard, lit up bright orange.

I used to have the auto version of that car years ago.
It was a great machine... very fast and held the road nicely.
IIRC, the inertia switch is in the back. Open the hatch and then the
left panel door. If not there then try the right panel door.
And towards the front of the door's compartment.
Are you sure the 2.5 is burning oil? The valve cover seals don't last
long and tended to leak quite a bit. |

Hey Paul, thanks for the tips..
the inertia switch is engaged, I doublecheck it tonite, it is pushed all the
way in. As I said, the car does start and runs good, revs high, runs fast,
but the fuel cutoff light stays lit. My haynes book of course shows nothing
about this except to where the IIRC is..
the 2.5 is burning oil, the valve covers are tight, it's probably the stem
seals.., nothing's coming out of the tailpipe.. |

Is it fuel cutoff or low-fuel?!!!!
And if it uses 1qt/400 you either arent looking close enough at the right
time or you have puddles.
It cant possibly be burning that much without smoke, sometime... watch when
you start it cold.... if smoke, stem seals. |

IIRC, my 93 PGT did not have a fuel cutoff light.
Is your's the US version of the Mazda Ford?
On the oil consumption... the catcon can only crack so much
hydrocarbon and then it melts down. |

This is the Mazda MX-6 in disguise.. It's got a fuel cutoff light on the
dash. |
